Counselling for Depression

Depression is something that we all face from time to time, and that is completely normal. Its normal to feel like everything is getting on top of you every now and again, however if you start to notice a pattern emerging then counselling might be something to help you break that cycle.

Addiction Counselling

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an amazing tool to help us look at the way we think and what is driving our addictions. We can be addicted to many different things, some things are difficult to talk to family or friends about. Counselling offers a safe, kind,  non judgmental space for you to explore your personal problems, and look at ways to solve them.

Anxiety Counselling

Anxiety is an emotion which was supposed to help us. In the beginning of time, humans and animals developed anxiety to help them survive. We needed to know when a tiger was about to chase us, or when we needed to fight for survival and anxiety would help us recognize that. Unfortunately we developed it way to much. We took anxiety and gave it a masters and for some people a PHD, and now for some of us the struggle is very real. Counselling is a way in which you can look at the triggers of your anxiety and what is feeding it.

My Approach to Counselling

Before we get into my approach lets look at some big questions.
First of all what is counselling?
Counselling is a space where a person chooses to speak to a Counsellor about whats been going on in their lives with the sole purpose of trying to make things better.
What should my Counsellor be like? How should they behave?
First of all you need to like your counsellor, but they cant be one of your existing friends. A Counsellor should be someone you do not have an existing relationship with, if you already did; you may not trust what they have to say. Counsellors should be kind, non judgemental, genuine, and unconditionally positive towards you. Counsellors should be professional, they need to be registered with an ethical body and have the correct qualification to do there job, without such is not a good sign.
Why Shining Through?
My chosen modality of counselling is person centered with use of cognitive behavioral techniques. Person Centered counselling is all about empowering you and helping you discover the right soloutions to your problems. No two people are the same, therefore what is right for one person may not necessarily be right for the next. In person centered counselling we work gently and aim to find your unique soloution to your problem together. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques are tools to help you get to that all important realization quicker. CBT is not for everyone and therefore it is used on a case by case basis dependent on your needs.
A little bit about me:

So my name is Rosie I am a bright, bubbly, colourful person and a mother of two. I have faced many adversities in my life, including grief, loss, depression, domestic abuse, homelessness and I am proud to say I have overcome these adversities and I continue to overcome and improve myself every day. I trained to become a counsellor when I was 21 and qualified at 25, and I am continuing my professional development by embarking on a BSc Honors in Psychology and Counselling. Its important to continue your professional development to stay in-keeping with ethics and changes within the realm of counselling and psychology as well as to improve on existing knowledge and skills. I have worked with a variety of different people, from all kind of backgrounds with all sorts of different personal problems, and it goes without saying that the experience is invaluable and only helps me to become better at what I do. I am fully DBS checked which is updated annually and I am a very open and honest person and hope that my honesty can bring clarity to those in need of counselling.
